Congratulations Rush and Heart!

I am thrilled two of my all-time favorite bands will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next spring!

Maybe it's the strangely odd yet profound lyrics, Geddy Lee's screechy wail or Alex Lifeson's guitar, I'm not sure, but I've been a fan of Rush since my teens.

Subdivisions completely resonated with me:

Hubs and I saw Rush in concert in 2008, they were fantastic.  Of course, we were among the mullets in the crowd and I was one of ten females at the concert, but who cares?  The laser show during YYZ was very cool.

The Rush episode of Trailer Park Boys always makes me laugh, did you know that Mike Smith (Bubbles) is a musician in real life?

I adore Heart - I find Ann and Nancy Wilson to be very inspirational.

I do prefer their 1970s music to their 1980s/1990s offerings, but they have such a catalogue of impressive work.  I want to read their autobiography, Kicking and Dreaming, which was released earlier this fall.  I am sure they have some tales to tell...

Heart is coming to my city next March - I have already bought my tickets and can't wait for the show!   I have always loved Dreamboat Annie:

and the Little Queen album is my favorite Heart album.

  5. My brush with fame...

...1988. My parents (yes, my parents) took me and a couple of girlfriends to see Mister Mister and Heart in concert. My dad, ever the impatient-let's-beat-the-crowd-now person, urged us to leave during the encore. OK fine. We get out to the car, pull out of the parking spot and the car dies. It is LATE Sunday night. Long before cell phones. The concert ends. EVERYONE leaves the concert and NO ONE stops to offer to help until about the last car is left (no lie). It wasn't something simple like the battery. So back into the coliseum we go so dad can find a phone to get a tow and rides back home (1.5hrs away). All of we girls are sitting at some random table when out walks Mister Mister. Gasp. We are too star struck to say anything. Then some of the Heart band members come out. A guitarist says hi and ends up sitting and chatting with us for a while. As we are talking with him, out walk Ann and Nancy--who didn't even wave, smile, nothing. And let me tell you, they looked OLD in 1988. Maybe it was stage make-up, hard living, I don't know but I remember us all being shocked by their appearance. But the guitar player and drummer were nice!

Eventually some poor soul (friend) drove all the way to South Bend to get us and schlepped our tired carcasses back home. What a night.

    1. What a story indeed! I think A & N lived through some hard living in the 1980s for sure. That's cool you got to meet the guitarist (was it Howard Leese?) and the drummer.

Mister Mister....lol. Our soft rock station still plays 'Broken Wings' and 'Kyrie' like the songs were only released yesterday!

    2. When I saw the name Howard...it rang a bell and then I remembered him being blond so I just googled the guy and yes, I believe it was him. Remember, this was only 25 years ago.

Did Mister Mister have any other hits? Those are the only two I remember as well.

  6. Was nice to see them recognized.
My all time favorite band was The Guess Who and I have always liked Burton Cummings voice so very much.
Gone are the days... so long ago now.

    1. The Guess Who were great, I loved their reunion album in 2000 - my sister has seen them twice in concert over the last few years, LOVES them (I think they were billed as Burton Cummings & Randy Bachman live though). Very talented. Winnipeg has generated some fine musicians!

    1. They look great, I am really looking forward to their concert. I'm still kicking myself that Hubs and I didn't go to the Go-Gos concert earlier this spring when we were in CA!

  10. Congrats to both! Today I heard the nicest story about Alex Lifeson on Rock101, the local station. He donated a whole bunch of guitars to the his granddaughter's school. The band started their Xmas concert by dedicating the first song to him, who was present in the audience.

  11. I loved that Trailer Park boys episode it was hilarious! I think I'm one of three Scots who saw it.
And there's one famous Heart song that sums up my early 20's romance when I ran off to New England for a boy - must go google it.
