Being Grateful

After another exhausting work week, I was left weary and tired on Friday.  I was grateful for Hubs, who first made me sit down after work with a glass of wine and then he made supper.  We watched a PBS Special on Margaret Mitchell (author of Gone with the Wind), which was very good.  On Saturday, my parents came for an overnight visit and it was lovely to reconnect with them; we hadn't seen them in awhile.  When life becomes stressful and overwhelming, it feels wonderful to be in the company of those you love and those who matter most to you.  Suddenly, the stresses of work just melt away.

Today Hubs and I watched some of the Titanic specials we had taped earlier in the week, along with another PBS Special, this time on Harper Lee.  (PBS has had some good shows on lately!)  Makes me want to read To Kill a Mockingbird again...

Just two more weeks until our SoCal holiday!  I am usually the go-getter, exploring type of person on a holiday but I think I'll spend more time relaxing this time and not feel the urge to cram in 48 hours of sightseeing in one day.

Lastly, I love our non-pet, the bunny.  He loves to come and visit our street and poke around our lawn.  He never causes trouble and never stays long.   A perfect non-commital pet!

  1. You must be champing at the bit to get away! "Never causes trouble and never stays long" - that's the perfect guest EVER!

  2. Hello:
There are occasions in life when one does need to spend moments unwinding which, from what you say here, you have been doing over the last weekend with a relaxing time spent with your husband and parents.

It is extraordinary how, 100 years later, the Titanic continues to fascinate and for reasons we cannot quite understand as there have been far worse maritime disasters. But, like you, we are completely taken up with it and should, if ever possible, be interested to visit the Titanic museum in Belfast.

    1. That would be so fascinating, I watched the Titanic special which Len Goodman hosted and it was so interesting to hear the different stories from all walks of life.

  3. Isn't it wonderful to have a lovely husband that takes care of you? I'm very grateful for Bill, as this is just the sort of thing he would do. I read a biography of Margaret Mitchell not too long ago. It was fascinating, but I wonder if I'll ever feel quite the same about Gone With the Wind. Yes, I must read To Kill a Mockingbird again.

Like Mitchell, Harper Lee one was a one-hit wonder. Imagine the pressure of trying to come up with another book that matches the success of either of those!

Artifacts from the Titanic were on display in the rooms on the same floor as one of my offices in Newcastle. I'm annoyed that I never made time to take the tour...obsessed with work, that's what I was. I think it is in part the obsession with wealth and the class system that make Titanic so memorable...

    1. It is wonderful and I am so lucky to have Hubs. He's one in a million and "gets" me.

I think you're right about what made the Titanic so memorable....some millionaires perished, and so did people from 2nd and 3rd class. And then there were those who saved themselves and it haunted them all their lives.

  4. Family can have such a calming effect, they make sure we feel loved and can bring us back to remember what is truly important.

You must not be a gardener if you like the sight of a bunny on your lawn but perhaps that is why he doesn't stay long. My bulbs have been chewed down to the soil in some places, wascally wabbits!

    1. Exactly.

You are right! No big gardens at my place, my Mom is the opposite, she's a garden queen and cannot stand rabbits! LOL

  5. Believe it or not, I haven't watched Titanic!! I'm sure I'd sob my heart out so I think until I've garnered enough courage, I'll stick to romcom.

It's all too easy to get into the rat race. Hope you get plenty of rest over the weekend.

    1. I watched Titanic 3 times in 1998, then didn't watch it again until last year. Then I watched all those Titanic specials.

I can't stand the rat race, the next 1.5 weeks will be tough sledding to get the work done before vacation, but it will get done!

  6. oh that bunny is too cute. How do you keep from trying to catch him?! One of these days a wild animal is going to eat me alive...I think my tombstone will say "she tried to pet it", lol.

    1. LOL too funny! We mostly just watch him from the window, although once I was parking the car in the driveway and he just watched me from the lawn, didn't scamper away until I went into the house. Clearly he feels safe on our lawn. LOL

  9. I always loved the book and movie (and Gregory Peck) of "To Kill a Mockingbird". As for "Gone With the Wind", I never cared for the movie until I read the book--loved the book. It gave more insight into Scarlett's character so that I could stomach her better in the movie.

I remember seeing the the movie "Titantic" at the theater...I think I fell in love with the costumes and sets. When it came out on video, I bought it. But I could never watch past when they first hit the iceburg which is where tape 1 ended. Tape 2 was never played. Now it has been years since I have seen it at all.

    1. I have never read Gone with the Wind but I want to now! And I definitely want to watch To Kill a Mockingbird after seeing the excerpts in the TV special.

The parents of the kids I used to babysit for had the Titanic movie. I would watch the movie after the kids went to bed.

  10. Love your bunny! Just catching up on my blogs. I hope you get to relax on your vacation! Yes, don't try to see too much. The best part of being in Southern Cal is that you can lay in the sun a bit and just recharge!

    Take care!
