California Dreamin' ....on such a winter's day....

So appropriate for a snowy day like today.  Check out this cool video:

I am already thinking of the perfect playlist for SoCal.............which obviously includes Tom Petty, Fleetwood Mac, Eagles, Belinda Carlisle, Go-Gos, Bangles, Mamas and Papas................anyone else?

OH YES right.  I can't forget the Top Gun soundtrack for San Diego.

But no smarmy Tom Cruise anything please.

And thank you.

How about Ventura Highway by America? It's a California song.
Don't forget the Beach Boys' California Girls and Surf City.

  2. Did you ever watch the show Theodore and the Tugboat when you were a child? It might just be a Maritine thing.

California Dreamin always reminds about how much I loved that show when I was a wee one. One of the Papas was the Habour master in the show.

  7. Okay, I can't resist adding my California picks . . .California Stars by Wilco and Billy Bragg.

"I want to rest my weary head tonight on a bed of California Stars."

How much better could it get when you are cruising down highway 1 from San Francisco to LA.

  8. Oh we always stay in around Bel Air/Beverly HIlls, and or Santa Monica/Malibu. I love how it's a different world in Malibu, I can slob about in rags and yet when you go hmm, up to/over not sure what the vernacular is for that to the other areas everyone is properly dressed.

Oh and another have " I LOVE LA!"

  9. Drinking in L.A. - Bran Van 3000. Perfect for a lazy afternoon enjoying a cocktail on an outdoor patio.

When you visit San Diego, take a trip over the Coronado bridge to see the historic Hotel del Coronado. It is one of the oldest and largest wooden buildings in California and quite a romantic spot to have dinner, drinks or stay overnight.

You used to be able to tour the Naval bases, which was pretty cool for me as a child but I think they discontinued that after 9/11. You can still have a good look from above, crossing over the Coronado bridge.

    Have fun!

    1. Oh yes I forgot that song too! You guys are the best!

Thanks for the tip, in fact we are staying in Coronado at the Loews Resort so we are definitely exploring the area. It looks beautiful! And Hubs loves anything Navy Seals, anything army/naval/aviation, etc etc etc etc so most of our time in San Diego will be spent exploring those things, he is absolutely thrilled about it.

  10. Blech I can't stand him either! In fact...I like him best when he plays horrid people like in Magnolia. I always think that's how he is in real life lol!

I'm with xoxo....that song is one of my faves...and came out when I was 26!

  11. All I can think about music wise at the moment is The Monkee's after hearing about Davy Jones premature passing.
Do you like the Monkee's LR? Daydream Believer has always been a fave of mine, more so now but tinged with sadness.

  13. There is a CD (i think I had a tape cassette) in the 70s, it was either called 'If you are going to San Francisco' or 'Wear flowers in your hair' or similar and it was a compilation of all such tracks, I played it to death, it was total feel good music!

  14. I still have a cassette tape of the Top Gun soundtrack!

  17. Umm, don henley was a HUGE crush of mine, and when I would go back to CA to see folks in the 90s, my walkman always always had boys of summer playing. That is quintessential California. :)

  19. I watched Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol (amongst dozens of other films) on the plane between Australia and England. I was pleased to see that even the beautiful Tom Cruise has problems with that difficult under-eye area now that he's older.
