Tribute Bands and an Award

My weekend was great.  On Friday night, Hubs and I attended my work Christmas party for small businesses - supper and entertainment.  Although it was not the same Abba/Elton John-inspired singing and dancing fueled spectacular as last year, the party was still good and the Eagles Tribute Band, Hotel California, was great.  The faux Don Henley sounded like the real Don Henley, especially during Dirty Laundry.

On Saturday night,  Hubs and I went to the Casino Show Lounge to see Dreams (A Tribute to Fleetwood Mac), which was fantastic.  These people are incredible musicians.  Faux Stevie Nicks was absolutely brilliant, she had the real Stevie's dance moves, microphone movements, voice and gypsy look down pat.  Being an enormous Stevie fan, I was impressed.  Dreams performed most all of Fleetwood Mac's hits (including my two favs Sara and Seven Wonders; Stevie does not perform the latter live anymore), also faux Stevie and faux Christine McVie did sublime vocals on Edge of Seventeen, which completely stole the show.  Then, Stevie invited "Tom Petty" to come out on stage and he performed three numbers with the band (You Wreck Me, Free Fallin' and American Girl), then "Stevie" and "Tom" performed Stop Draggin' My Heart Around.  Having seen both the original Fleetwood Mac and Tom Petty in concert, the tribute band concert was an unexpected thrill and fantastic entertainment.  Highly recommended show to see if they are ever in your area, and $20 per ticket?  Totally worth the money!

Now, may I extend a big thanks to Annie at Red Roses and Crystal, she has awarded me with the Liebster Blog award - Thank You dear!  I love reading Annie's endearing blog.

Some info about the award:

Liebster is a German word meaning "dearest" and the award is given to bloggers with fewer than 200 followers.

The award has a few stipulations:

1.  Thank the giver and link back to the blogger who gave it you.
2.  Reveal your five blogger picks and let them know by leaving a comment on their blog.
3.  Copy and paste the award on your blog.
4.  Hope that people you have sent the award to forward it on to their favourite bloggers.

So, my five blog picks are:

  1. Congrats!

Sounds like fun seeing the tribute bands. Master Bliss loves the Beatles so we have seen 1964 a few times and RAIN...they have always been great. ~~Bliss

  2. I love Tom Petty! Sounds like a great night out.

Thank you SO much for the award! Will pass on the love :D

  3. You had a great night out! What fun.
Thank you for the award. Very sweet of you to pass one along to me.

  4. Sounds like a fun night LR and we share very similar taste in music. Fleetwood Mac is our all time favourite band (have attended two concerts in Australia) and The Eagles have been a constant in our lives since high school (showing my age here).
    Tribute bands are fun.
Must pop into your nominated blogs.

  5. Hello:
You really do seem to have been having a most enjoyable time. A very good lead in to the festive season which is about to overtake us all. And many congratulations on your well deserved award.

  6. I love Tom Petty and Fleetwood Mac, that would have been great fun! Oh and The Eagles too, oh reading comments it's we all do!

  7. Bliss and Hattatts - thanks!

Bliss - the Beatles Tribute would be great, my brother and sister-in-law saw 1964 in Vegas and loved it.

Hattatts - lots of entertainment lately! :)

CC - You're welcome! Tom Petty is awesome. Faux Tom was wearing a red shirt and black leather vest just like the real Tom wears for shows, and he had the longer hair and lanky build too.

    Annie - You're welcome! :)

Red Roses & Crystal - Fleetwood Mac is the best. I was glad they performed Christine McVie's songs, when I saw them in Calgary, Christine had already stopped touring. :( Tribute bands are tons of fun, we've seen quite a few!

Tabs - We all have fabulous music taste!

  8. Thank you so much for the blog award. I'm very honoured. I will post it, I promise, and I will check out your other blogs you've awarded. For the moment, it's a bit frantic around here (that mad season, you know) and as I've browsed my blog list for suitable award recipients I'm finding it a bit challenging - most of the ones I read regularly have quite large readerships or are somehow not suitable for an award - too serious, too minimalist, not really a great blog I just read it because my friend's husband writes it... I'm working on it though! And thanks again!

Bill wants to know the name of the lovely building in the banner at the top, the one through the window...great photo!

  9. Shelley - You're welcome! The top photo was taken at the New York Public Library during our April 2010 trip, we snapped a few shots while we were touring around. We like taking artsy photos like that! :)
